How To “Translate” The Bible (Without Any Qualifications)

Mar 7, 2013 by

fredfranzHave you ever wondered how the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society came up with their “translation” of the Bible?

It is really quite simple actually.

First, you fill a room with every possible translation of the Bible.

Then you go through it verse by verse in teams. Then you take out any verse that doesn’t agree with your point of view and then scramble to find any translation written by anyone (including one Johannes Greber a spiritualist who used his medium wife as a channel to produce his translation) that supports your doctrinal view. In this particular case, John 1:1 was the verse changed by the Watchtower to make Christ “a god” (little “g”) instead of God (big “G”). You then replace the “offending scripture” with a more innocuous one or one that even agrees with your point of view.

If you can’t find a specific translation or version of the Bible that would actually support your  views you simply put additional words in brackets to “help” any of your followers to accept your view without questioning it. Colossians 1:15-20 is a case in point. Check it out in the New World Translation and compare it to other translations and you’ll see some very odd brackets working their way into the scriptures that are specifically designed to skew the original intended meaning.

If you still can’t influence the meaning then you either “translate” the scripture they way you want it to read (John 8:58) and propose a non-existent tense in Greek as the reason you did it (nobody in the grade school educated rank and file will question it!) or you cast doubt as to the scripture’s actual validity by implying that it was inserted into the Bible by a “trinitarian conspiracy”!

Then, when you’re all finished, you put it together for mass production, paint it green, and refuse to sign it or even release the identities of the translators to anyone. That way nobody can be called on the carpet for lack of any credentials that would entitle them to translate Greek or Hebrew. If the inevitable question is raised as to “why” you refused to sign your work then you simply say: “We wanted to give all the “credit” to Jehovah.” and try not to laugh as you say it.

Amazing isn’t it? The fact is that the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society requires that everyone signs their time card don’t they? Yet signing your work that you produce to distribute to millions comes with no credits or signatures at all. Would that make it hard to hold anyone accountable for any lies found to be in that work? Would it make it easy to slide something past the “faithful” as a scholarly work when in fact the person writing it might never have graduated high school? Makes one wonder doesn’t it?

How pompous it would be to refuse to sign your work when many of the Bible writers signed theirs! Does that mean that Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, James, Solomon, Jude, and the apostle Paul were all being presumptuous by signing their work? That is certainly implied by the actions of these so called “translators”.

Voila! The New World Translation was created by supposed “holy spirit” and more than a little help from one Fred Franz and his “crack” translation team.

Making It Up As You Go Along: The New World Translation

Nov 20, 2011 by

The prior instance really brought home to me the insidious nature of the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society and just what lengths they are willing to go to in order to protect their flawed theology from being found out.

Why did they write the New World Translation?

I’ll tell you why!

Because they take every single verse that has anything to do with the belief in a trinity or the deity of Christ and they change it in their bible.

Here is a prime example and I want you to see this because it really makes it plain what is happening.

The poor JW, Mr. Johnson reads Philippians 2:5 and thinks “Okay Jesus wasn’t equal to God.” Yet he never bothers to check any other version because he has no reason to. He is completely and utterly deceived. Even if other versions contradict their flawed translation they will simply discount it out of hand and say “Well what do you expect from trinitarians?”

There is simply no way to reason with these people to any great effect. The exchanges with Mr. Johnson in the prior posts illustrate just how difficult a challenge it is.

In a last ditch effort I will attempt to help Mr. Johnson see what the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society has done. I’m including a scan from the Greek Interlinear Version of the New World Translation. It is Philippians 2:5 the scripture that supposedly states very clearly in their bible that Christ wasn’t equal to God. I will quote the NWT as was posted by Mr. Johnson and then I will post the scan from their own Greek Interlinear so that you can see how they twist the scripture to suit their own ends:

Philippians 2:5-11 — Keep this mental attitude in YOU that was also in Christ Jesus, who, although he was existing in God’s form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God. No, but he emptied himself and took a slave’s form and came to be in the likeness of men. More than that, when he found himself in fashion as a man – New World Translation

Looks pretty simple doesn’t it? The scripture plainly states that Jesus Christ wasn’t equal to God.

Let’s see what their own Greek Interlinear says:

Notice the verbiage (yellow highlighting) under the Greek translation in verse 6. It plainly states in no uncertain terms that Jesus Christ existed in the form of God and that He was equal to God. He didn’t, however, wish to seize upon His status as being equal to God as a reason to decline the request of God the Father to empty Himself and take the form of a human.

Amazing isn’t it?

I just thought I’d share this with you directly from the print so that you can see for yourself how the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society continues to deceive their followers regarding the true nature of Jesus Christ.

Yours in Christ,

Doug Shields

My response to Debra’s email.

Jul 16, 2011 by

Thank you Debra for your kind words and your testimony.

You are absolutely right. We can’t debate a Jehovah’s Witness into being a Christian. You and I both know it simply doesn’t work that way. It has to start in their heart. We may speak to them about our faith or demonstrate our faith with our actions, however, in the end result it is up to God to do the rest. That is why prayer is so important when you are attempting to help a Jehovah’s Witness to Christ. Even Jesus’ disciples were at times unable to cast out demons except with prayer and fasting. (Matthew 17:21)

Amazing the freedom that we have in Christ isn’t it? Looking back I can’t believe that I walked with the Watchtower blinders on for so long a time.

I believe that our having been saved from the Jehovah’s Witness error by the grace of Jesus Christ is the very reason why we owe a debt in helping any Witnesses that we can to come to Christ. Who better to witness to and understand a Jehovah’s Witness and what they are going through than someone who has been in their shoes?

I’m so proud of you for witnessing to JW’s. It is not an easy task by any means and most of the time (I’m sure we both can attest!) it is a thankless endeavor.

It is my hope that my blog has given you a good resource for helping them to Christ.

Thank you again for your wonderful testimony and I wish you the very best in your walk with God.

Yours in Christ,

Doug Shields

Letter From A Reader.

Jul 16, 2011 by

I received the following email from a former Jehovah’s Witness. Debra you have validated everything I’ve been saying on this blog and I thank you for sharing your testimony. Here it is in its entirety:

Dear Doug,

Thank you for sharing your story. I was also a witness for 21 years.

The story is long. I also read “Crisis of Conscience, (COC)” actually with great fear at first because I was convinced that I was doing the wrong thing and that I would be punished by Jehovah for doing so. I also eventually began to seek out others to assist me.

I went to a home of a priest late one evening when it was very dark so that people in the neighborhood could not see me. He was doing pre wedding counseling and said that he could not talk because he had people in his office, but could set up a time after, but he noticed that I was afraid. I told him that I was a Jehovah’s Witness. He was then very concerned for me and told me that he knew the risk that I took in going to him. I left. I continued to seek but had to do so covertly.

My new husband is the one who bought the book COC for me. He and his mother actually loved me to Christ just as you tell people to do in your testimony. This love and reading my Bible with help of the Holy Spirit and not man’s books has brought me to Christ.

The freedom is unbelievably awesome. Patience and love is the key to helping Witnesses, not being critical or hateful. Although there are Witnesses that run into me and are very rude and hateful, and although it is sometimes hard, I show kindness back.

I have had Jesus in my life since November of 2001, but I was in bondage to the Watchtower for 21 years. I was so deeply entrenched in the doctrine that I had that wall of defense around me. I frequently hear people at church say about JW’s, “You can’t talk to those people.” At which time I raise my hand and remind them that I am here. They of course say, “Oh yeah, that’s right.” and, “Present company excluded.”

My church family is very loving and supportive, they just need an occasional reminder that I, (and people like you,) were brought to Christ through people like them who gave us a chance to be loved by Christ. But the reality is that many real Christians think that way and unfortunately berate Witness people only fortifying the wall they have around them. I know that happened to me if anyone attacked my “faith.”

We all need to love Witnesses to God. Christians need to understand too that it will not happen with a Witness overnight, nor will they become saved after the first time a Christian talks to them. It may take years. One person may plant a seed, another will water and God makes it grow. Thank you for your testimony.

Hacked But I’m Back!

Jul 14, 2011 by

To all my wonderful readers,

I recently experienced the joy of being hacked. Apparently someone didn’t like my content and they hacked into my blog.

It just so happened that I was on the blog at the time they broke in and I immediately began experiencing problems posting and making changes. I then noticed that the content was being deleted.

Luckily for me I keep my content on a hard drive and because of that I was able to repost without a hitch.

Perhaps in a dark room in Brooklyn Bethel there is a busy team of hackers working feverishly to shut me down. Nah I’m just being paranoid!

Thanks for your continued support.

Yours in Christ,

Doug Shields
