Jehovah’s Witnesses Are Studying With My Friend

The majority of Watchtower adherents are recruited directly from the door-to-door activity that Jehovah’s Witnesses engage in. It is the central cornerstone of their success around the world. This is also why Jehovah’s Witnesses are taught that if they don’t go door-to-door and witness to the world about their faith that they will die at the hand of Jehovah in the day of Armageddon. Self preservation is one of the most effective motivators in the human psyche. Judging from the massive amount of hours spent in the door-to-door activity by millions of Jehovah’s Witnesses their strategy is working quite well!

The following are some steps that you can take to try to help your friend who is being influenced by the Jehovah’s Witnesses:

Show them my blog and have them read it. Get their reactions from their reading. Ask questions. That is one of the main purposes of this blog: To show those who are being indoctrinated what is happening to them.

If they are open to it I suggest that they also read “Combatting Cult Mind Control” by Stephen Hassan. It doesn’t mention Jehovah’s Witnesses at all but it does draw directly from his experience being indoctrinated into the Unification Church (Moonies) and there are more than a few similarities in the way they work and the Jehovah’s Witnesses. The benefit here is that Hassan cannot be classified as an apostate because he was never a Jehovah’s Witness!

Pray for them. Ask God to show them the error that is the Jehovah’s Witness cult.

Ask them if they would rather have a direct relationship with God or if they would prefer to have to serve the Watchtower as their sole mediator between themselves and God. Show them my article (search “Mediator” in the search box to the right) concerning this very subject.

Have an intervention. Get their family and friends together and sit down and have everyone in the group tell them how much they mean to them and how sad it would be if they joined this cult and cut their ties with their family and friends as a result.

Have them read my article on the process of indoctrination and how it happens. It is an eye-opener and will more than likely jar them out of their preoccupation with the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

These are just some of the steps you can take to “wake them up” and get them out of this “charmed” state and process. The most important thing, and I can’t stress this enough, is not to condemn them specifically for studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses. We all want answers and unfortunately for them the Jehovah’s Witnesses seem to have them (at least at first blush). You need to show unconditional love, compassion, and that they matter very much to you.

Then, if after all of this, they still insist on pursuing the path of indoctrination then there really isn’t much you can do other than to let them know that if they need to talk or need some support that you are there for them no matter what. Let them know that you love them no matter what they do and that you always will. They will learn soon enough that all of the attention and “love” that they are getting from the Jehovah’s Witnesses comes at a very high price and that it is highly conditional upon their performance as a ”worker bee” for the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society.

Yours in Christ,
