1) Do you believe that everyone goes to either heaven or hell or that 2) everyone will simply be saved if they accept Jesus as their lord and savior? If number 1, then what happens to the earth because according to a scripture in psalms the meek ones will possess the earth and reside forever upon it? If number 2 then who goes to heaven and what happens to the earth since the earth was clearly made to be inhabited and not destroyed? thanks for your honest and well thought out response in advance!

It is rare that I can answer an “either / or” question with a single word: YES.

I believe that we either go to heaven or hell hinging upon our decision regarding your option #2.

If we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior then we will go to heaven. If we refuse that avenue of salvation then we will go straight to hell when we die.

Note the words of Jesus at Matthew 10:28:

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

The Bible is quite clear on at least this point of heaven and the earth:

2 Peter 3:13

But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.

Isaiah 65:17

“Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.

Revelation 21

Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

When you throw out all of the cryptic references to symbolism and just read these scriptures for what they are it becomes quite clear what God’s plan is for us.

My question to you Anonymous is this:

Why would a loving God take the trouble to write His book and then fill it up with “code words” that only the Watchtower could understand?

My answer? He didn’t and a loving God wouldn’t do that to us.

God’s plan is plain to all but the hopelessly misled. Believe in Christ and we will be saved.

Where this “new heavens and new earth” will be is irrelevant to me. I know that if I am saved by the blood of Jesus Christ that wherever that is, I will be blissfully happy.

Yours in Christ,

Doug Shields
